Astronomy:

Callaghan’s Creek is an ideal site for astronomy due to the absence of light pollution. We currently have two telescopes, an eight inch Cassegrain reflector and a sixteen inch Dobsonian mounted Newtonian reflector. We will be happy to assist your enjoyment of the night sky if you wish.

Trout Flies and Fly Tying:

Noted local professional fly tyer Donna Cardwell always has a wide selection of flies suitable for local conditions for sale. She will also offer fly tying classes for one or two people by appointment, either for beginners or a master class for more experienced anglers.

Other Attractions:

Nearby Dartmouth Dam and township offer interest to the visitor. The dam when full holds over six times the amount of water in Sydney Harbour, and the hydro-electric scheme is of a scale that has to be seen to be appreciated.
“The Witches Garden” is a delightful garden and nursery offering a range of rare plants and herbs and advice that is hard to obtain elsewhere.
The Mitta Masters Art Gallery displays exclusive art work by local artists.

Bahratralia Park has a unique range of Indian wildlife for inspection and Devonshire teas and Indian meals are available by appointment.
There is a nine hole golf course at Mitta, and Tennis courts are also available.
Swimming and lawn bowls are available at Eskdale.
Dairying is a prominent local primary industry, and we can arrange a visit to a dairy at milking time if requested.

History:

A Beaufort Bomber Crash site, as featured in the book, “Going My Way’ by Russell Kelly
Is located near Eskdale, and half day trips to the crash site can be arranged.

Gold and Tin mining were both extensively practised in the region, and a number of mines and places of interest remain.

At Mitta-Mitta, The Pioneer Mine site is a reminder of less environmentally friendly days when the California Nozzle was used to destroy the landscape in the search for gold. The mine site is now a lovely walking track and native animal refuge. This is believed to be the best example of this kind of mine in Victoria.

There are many other pioneer relics and huts in the area, and the spirit of the pioneers is still alive as the mountain cattle men still muster their cattle on horseback in winter, as this is still the most practical way of traversing the high country.

Whip use and whip cracking demonstrations can also be arranged for guests, as can a range of bush skills and customs be demonstrated by local experts.

According to Tindale, the original inhabitants of this area were the Duduroa people. We can find no records of their history, and would be obliged if anyone can provide a profile of their history that must be rich, ancient and full of interest.

But wait, there's more:
