Indian-Pacific
Has been on the bucket list for a long time, we finally managed to slot in a trip on an international railway icon, the Indian-Pacific. This amazing trip, in our case, Perth to Sydney, took 3 nights and four days – a total of around 65 hours. And it is a long train, around 800 metres with 35 carriages.
We slummed it in ‘Platinum Club’ class where there was an excellent wine list and Bollinger freely flowing. The food and service was excellent and the double beds and en-suite were also of a high standard. Not that easy to get a good sleep though, with the rocking and rolling of the train.
A stop and a midnight tour of Kalgoorlie and a further break at Cook the next day were welcomed. Then a couple of hours at Adelaide for a crew change and takeup of fuel, water and fresh food plus a short walking tour of the Adelaide CBD.
Out the window were the dramatically changing landscapes and of course the vastness of the Nullarbor. A great experience !
